M. F. Husain was a modern Indian artist of international acclaim and a founding member of the Bombay Progressive Artists Group. His early involvement with the Bombay Progressive Artists` Group used modern technique and was influenced by the "new" India after the 1947 partition.
His narrative works, executed in a modified Cubist style, can be both caustic and humorous, also can be serious and somber. His themes — sometimes dealt with in series on subjects as varied as Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Ramayana, Mahabharata, the British Raj, and motifs of urban and rural Indian life.
